THE RENEGADE COULD GIVE THE SOUL! A RUN FOR IT'S MONEY
THE RENEGADE HAS SEVERAL DESIGN CUES THAT FUNKIFY IT
Had a chance to meet up with the newest Jeep product the other day in midtown Manhattan as Fiat Chrysler decided to show off their newest baby The 2015 Jeep Renegade in the country's number one SUV market, New York City. You know something...I came away quite impressed.
I got a first look at the Renegade as it was introduced just feet away from this event at the New York International Auto Show in April. I was impressed then and even more so now! The Renegade is the first Italian built Jeep product of the marriage of Chrysler and Fiat and like many things that come out of Italy, it has style in every inch of its wheelbase.
While the Jeep DNA is without a doubt present especially in its front grille and round headlamps, as well as tow hooks painted day glo red to make sure it says off road, the rest of the car from the grille back screams more Kia Soul! than anything else in the Jeep lineup. I almost got the feeling that that is exactly who Fiat was aiming for with the Renegade...the Soul! buyer who wanted more versatility out of their car.
Looking at it and sitting in it it has that Soul! feeling to it. Funky, hip, full of unique design cues and very functional, the Renegade looks like it is not just going to be a box on wheels but a fun car to drive and a fun car to be seen in.
Add to the funkification of the Jeep brand the ability to get off the beaten path with 30 degree approach and descent angles on Trail Rated models and a probable under $25k price tag and the Renegade looks like it becomes the Jeep for a new generation.
Inside the Renegade the interior comes off as functional, not quirky really and spacious due to two removable roof panels that open the Renegade up to the sun and fun! Take the panels off and take it off road and it looks like there could be a whole lot of communicating with nature going on. I liked the front seats comfortable and well positioned sitting up high. Rear seat room was a bit tight...more for four than five.
Power will come from a 4 cylinder 180 hp turbo that will be married up to either a 6 speed manual or Chrysler's 9 speed automatic that should help the Renegade deliver over 30 mpg.
I have a feeling that the Renegade is going to be big for Fiat Chrysler. It is different, stylish, curvy and comes with as good a first name...Jeep...as you can get in off roading. It looks like the perfect automotive marriage of Hunk and Funk! If I am the folks running Kia I am pricing out four wheel drive and skid plates as we speak.
INTERIOR IS WELL LAID OUT AND SIMPLE BUT WITH ITALIAN STYLE
THE MASSIVE TWO REMOVABLE PANEL ROOF GIVES THE RENEGADE A FEELING OF OPENNESS AND SHOULD HELP THE YOGA SET COMMUNICATE WITH NATURE BETTER
